Where the Appellation Story Began
Lot One began as an experiment. Drawn from estate-grown Oakville fruit, it was produced in 2019 as Tom Gamble explored a broader expression of one of Napa Valley’s most respected appellations. At the time, Gamble’s wines were still largely centered around individual vineyard bottlings, and this small lot offered an opportunity to step back and consider Oakville as a whole.
Years later, that idea feels familiar.
The Gamble Estates portfolio has since evolved to include a collection of appellation wines from across Napa Valley, and Lot One remains an early example of that thinking. Looking back, it offers an interesting glimpse into the evolution of Gamble Estates and the path that led to today’s Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon.
More importantly, after six years in bottle, Lot One continues to show beautifully, offering a mature expression of Oakville Cabernet and a reminder that some experiments are worth revisiting.
